Last Day for 2008 Charitable Contributions

Today is the last day we can contribute to charitable organizations and get a deduction on our 2008 taxes. If you live in Arizona, there is a tax credit available, where you get a dollar for dollar reduction in your Arizona state tax bill for each dollar you contribute, up to a maximum amount.

Taxpayers filing as single and unmarried head of household have a maximum credit amount of $200. Taxpayers that are filing as married filing joint have a maximum credit of $400. Taxpayers filing married filing separate have a maximum credit of $200 each. In effect, donating to a charitable organization up to the maximum tax credit amount costs you nothing!

Check out the Arizona Department of Revenue website for details on the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit, including a list of qualifying Charitable Organizations.

Phoenix Rescue Mission Needs Our Help

Many of the homeless right now are entire families left homeless by loss of a job or loss of their home due to the current financial crisis. The 6.5% unemployment rate published in October 2008 was a 14-year high, and long term unemployment payments hit a 25-year high in November 2008.

There are common misconceptions about homelessness and here's a great article that hits the nail on the head titled Rethink Homelessness, America.

The Phoenix Rescue Mission is one organization in the Phoenix valley that helps provide nutritious meals to homeless people, and it costs only $1.92 per meal. Here's an article that just came out today about the people they're helping titled Dad finds help at Rescue Mission.

I've been donating a portion of the revenue this website receives to the Phoenix Rescue Mission since September 2008, but from December 2008 thru January 2009 I'm going to increase the level of support to 25% of all revenue received.

Now every time you buy an Amazon.com Gift Card or an iTunes Gift Certificate, or use an Amazon Coupon, an Overstock Coupon, a TigerDirect Coupon or any other coupon or promotional link on MoneyJibe.com, you'll be helping people that are less fortunate!

You can also support the Phoenix Rescue Mission directly via their website. A few dollars goes a long way toward helping people get back on their feet!
